"On the first question, there is no doubt federal MP Ralph Goodale is the single most influential Liberal in the province. Few significant decisions are made without his involvement and approval. Goodale is a big part of the reason leader Stephane Dion chose to appoint Joan Beatty as the party's candidate in its failed attempt to hang on to the riding in a March byelection."
The real question is whether the Liberals have prospered in Saskatchewan as the result of Goodale's influence.
Despite being the Liberal finance minister and the former leader of provincial Liberals, under Goodale's influence the provincial liberals have been electorally wiped off the face of the map for two consecutive elections. Federally, under that same influence, Goodale has managed to save one seat in Saskatchewan; his own.
His support of Joan Beatty in the riding of DMCR was the kiss of death for the Liberals there. The Liberals lost the only other seat in SK they had after the 2006 general election because of Goodale's influence and Dion's bumbling.
If Goodale is indeed influential, it has been and will continue to be a negative influence, especially as he continues to promote the wealth redistribution plan that is Green Shift.
If the Liberals desire any presence ever again in the province, they have to get rid of the most Saskatchewan's most influential Liberal, Ralph Goodale.
Ralph has been good for one person... Ralph.

Ralph's Carbon Tax Stance - Pre "Green Shift"
“We've been very clear that a carbon tax is not part of our thinking.'' (Ottawa Citizen, May 20, 1999)
"A carbon tax is not part of our planning,'' Goodale insisted.
"Not to be too cute or to mince words -- No.'' (Calgary Herald, April 28, 1998)
"A carbon tax should not be part of the plan.'' (Edmonton Journal, December 18, 1997)
"I've been very clear that a carbon tax is not a part of our planning,'' he told reporters Monday following a speech to the Calgary Chamber of Commerce. "We believe that our objectives with respect to greenhouse gases and climate change can be achieved in far more constructive ways.'' (Calgary Herald, January 19, 1999)
Goodale reiterated his stance Tuesday that Ottawa will not implement a carbon tax to penalize users of fossil fuels. (Calgary Herald, CP, April 19, 2000)
A so-called carbon tax on fossil fuel consumption isn't in the cards, he stressed. "I have stated . . . and the minister of finance has stated, and the prime minister stated that a carbon tax is not part of program,'' Goodale said in an interview. (Calgary Herald, October 15, 1999)
He stressed that a carbon tax was not part of the plan and added that Canada will meet its goals through measures such as energy conservation and improved efficiencies (Calgary Herald, October 14, 1999)
"A carbon tax is not a part of our planning or our thinking,'' Mr. Goodale said. "Our whole orientation is to relieve the tax burden, not increase the tax burden.'' (National Post, May 20, 1999)
Meanwhile, Goodale told The StarPhoenix that federal government has no intention of bringing in a “carbon tax" to help reduce greenhouse gas emissions (StarPhoenix, April 17, 1998)
Goodale was unequivocal in June when he told the Herald no new carbon tax or NEP would arise to haunt the Canadian oilpatch. "Allay your fears, and we'll all work together. I know it is an old anxiety that keeps recurring,'' he said then. "I would hope that through good work, good policies and good communications, we will continue to allay that anxiety.'' (Calgary Herald, October 23, 1997)
